PyeongChang is becoming tourism hub

Korea Times has reported that PyeongChang is taking necessary steps to become Tourism Hub.

This city is already having many international hotels to attract foreign Tourists.

The Winter Olympics, combined with the increasing force of “hallyu” or Korean Wave in popular culture worldwide, is expected to serve as a compelling force in making the PyeongChang  into a world-class tourism center.

The Alpensia ski resort will add a concert hall for the 2018 Cultural Olympiad, which is expected to serve as a venue for concerts by hallyu stars.

The Alpensia resort is already famous for the annual Great Mountains International Music Festival and School, showcasing more than 50 concerts and music programs by the world’s top musicians.

And, the Korea Times report says that the PyeongChang will build more MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition) facilities and in particular, construct casinos for foreigners, duty free shops and shopping centers.

 

Pyeongchang spokeswoman wins celebrity status

Theresa Rah, the spokeswoman of the Pyeongchang bid committee, has suddenly found herself in the spotlight as celebrity, with the Korean public crediting the Pyeongchang’s winning the rights to host the 2018 Winter Olympics to her fluent English presentation and natural charm.

Theresa Rah’s photo is being posted on many Internet blogs and portals.

Rah had given the presentation in English to make a strong appeal to the IOC members. It wasn’t just about the language she used, but also refined manners and a positive attitude.

She said she became more devoted to her job as bid committee spokesperson after seeing the residents of Pyeongchang passionately greet the IOC members who traveled to the city early this year.

Although the bidding process is over, Rah said she will keep working to promote Korean sports.

Pyeongchang to host 2018 Winter Olympic Games

International Olympic Committee (IOC) has selected Pyeongchang for conducting 2018 Winter Olympics.

Pyeongchang will be the first city in Asia outside Japan to host the Winter Games.

Pyeongchang’s bid for 2018 was accepted after two previous bid failed attempts for 2010 and 2014, in which it lost to Vancouver, Canada, and Sochi, Russia respectively
